In the Contemporary Karbala lecture series, East London based speaker Hussain Al- Nashed captivated the audience for the ten days of Muharram with a paradigm shifting series of lectures on the contemporary lessons we can learn from the events of Karbala.
- What is Society and why is it important?
- Foucault Freud and Descartes Western Values
- The Destruction of Muslim Society
- The Saviour of Islam
Each night the audience grew as support from the establishment strengthened and the appreciation of re-engaging the youth of the community solidified. This series of lectures heralded the beginning of English lectures at Sakina Trust. Food was generously donated by a range of benefactors as the audience steadily increased in size. During these lectures, SPL was honoured to support the IUS Imam Hussain Blood Donation campaign and various Marches which were taking place at the time. This was a milestone in the impact which SPL would have on the Shia youth providing a platform for collaboration and exchange of views within a religious setting, thereby inspiring and galvanising the next generation to raise their voices in a constructive way.
